Pattern 18
Network of Learning
Problem
Concentrate learning inside a few large school buildings, and it separates itself from the rest of city life; knowledge becomes something that happens only in one fixed place at fixed hours, instead of being available everywhere.
Solution
Scatter small, open places of learning throughout the city — in workshops, businesses, libraries, and beyond — so learning stays woven into the rest of life, instead of being locked away inside a handful of large schools.
