Pattern 205
Structure Follows Social Spaces
Problem
When a structural grid gets fixed first and rooms are squeezed in afterward, the rooms end up as leftover space between columns. Human needs then bend to the technical system instead of the other way around.
Solution
Decide first which rooms are needed and what social purpose each one must serve, and only then let the structure grow out of that arrangement — construction must serve the rooms, not force the rooms into a grid.
