Problem
Teenagers stand between childhood and adulthood — they still want to belong to the family, yet they also need a territory of their own in which to try themselves out. An ordinary bedroom inside the house grows too confining for this, while moving out entirely would come too soon.
Solution
Attach a small, half-independent unit with its own entrance to the house for teenagers, a place where they can rehearse independence on a small scale while still staying within the family's orbit.
