Window Place
Context Entrance Room130 · Zen View134 · Light on Two Sides of Every Room159 · Street Windows164
Problem
In any room a person is pulled two ways at once — toward the light of the window and toward a comfortable place to sit. When the two stay apart, a quiet restlessness sets in: the window becomes a mere hole, the seat sits off in the half-dark.
Solution
In every room where you spend any length of time, turn at least one window into a place of its own — with a seat, a low sill, and a view — so that the pull toward light and the pull toward sitting are answered in the same spot.
