Problem
Along heavily trafficked roads, the footpath often sits at the same level as the roadbed. This leaves the person walking exposed to the noise, exhaust, and closeness of passing cars with nothing to soften it.
Solution
Lift the footpath a little above the level of the road wherever traffic is heavy, so that you walk protected, looking slightly down on the passing stream of cars instead of standing right beside it.
