Problem
When footpaths and roads share the same undivided space, people on foot and cars are forced into constant contact. Either the cars take over and walking becomes an afterthought, or the paths break apart into disconnected fragments that lead nowhere.
Solution
Lay out a separate, continuous network of footpaths that crosses the road network without merging into it, so you can walk to any place safely and directly, on your own web of ways.
