Problem
Gardens often amount to nothing more than open ground without any real edge, so no place emerges where a person actually settles in — one merely stands in the garden rather than dwelling in it. What's missing is the sense of enclosure that makes staying feel natural.
Solution
Enclose part of the garden with walls, hedges, or a roof so that a partly sheltered outdoor room takes shape, a place that feels inhabited the way a room does, only open to the sky.
