Problem
The north side of a building sits in shadow for most of the day and so gets treated as an afterthought — a bare back side for bins, driveways, and dead corners. Yet this area remains part of everyday surroundings, and precisely for that reason it tends to slide into neglect.
Solution
Plan the north side with the same care as the rest of the building: put rooms there that need little sun, and shape the northern outdoor ground carefully enough that it, too, keeps its own use and appeal.
