Paving with Cracks Between the Stones
Context Small Meeting Rooms151 · Path Shape121 · Private Terrace on the Street140 · Outdoor Room163 · Connection to the Earth168 · Terraced Slope169
Problem
A path paved as one continuous sealed surface keeps rainwater from the ground and lets nothing grow through it — the path cuts itself off entirely from the living soil underneath.
Solution
Pave your paths with stones set with open joints where grass and moss can take root, rather than sealing the ground beneath one unbroken surface, so the path stays alive and able to breathe.
