Pattern 39
Housing Hill
Context Density Rings29 · Four-Story Limit21
Problem
Higher housing density is often achieved with plain block buildings where only the lower units keep access to garden and ground, while upper floors lose their share of sun, view, and contact with the earth.
Solution
When greater density is needed, step dwellings back in terraces as though along a hillside, so every single home keeps its own piece of sun, garden, and contact with the ground, instead of reserving those qualities for the lower floors alone.
