Problem
Where houses have only private gardens but no shared land at their doorstep, there is no natural place for neighbors to meet. Everyone stays behind their own boundary, and neighborliness happens only by chance.
Solution
Give every cluster of houses a piece of common land right at its door — a green, a meadow, a courtyard — that belongs to everyone, so that meeting one another happens as a matter of course.
