Problem
In a deep building mass, the center of each floor lies far from any outer wall, so daylight never reaches it, and that core stays dark and lifeless.
Solution
Keep every wing of the building narrow enough that daylight enters each room from two opposite sides, rather than building a deep bulk with a dark, dead center.
