Problem

The edge of a building often gets built as a pure boundary — a smooth wall that draws a hard line between inside and out. That throws away a place where someone could pause, sit, or linger, right where the house meets the world around it.

Solution

Shape the building's edge as an inhabitable zone of its own — with seating nooks, sheltered overhangs, and small in-between thresholds — so it becomes somewhere to dwell rather than a mere line separating inside from outside.
