Problem
When shops are packed into closed, inward-facing centers, their connection to the rest of town life is severed — shopping becomes an isolated activity behind glass walls instead of part of the path people are already walking.
Solution
String shops along a busy, open street rather than tucking them into an introverted mall, so that shopping folds naturally into the ordinary flow of town life.
